I have got a few questions for nurses involved with admission units. I am with a 300 bed hospital (we usually keep about 250 beds occupied) that is looking into starting an admission unit. To other admission units-
1. How many beds do you have for the admission unit?
2. Do you all admit all patients?--or just ones that come through the Ed?
3. What happens if there aren't any beds available? Do you then turn into a staff nurse until a bed available?
4. Do you call report to the floor receiving the patient?--or give a verbal at the bedside upon transfer?
5. What other responsibilities do you have? Just the paperwork? Or what?
Thanks in advance for your responses and ideas to help this transition of mine easier.
