Has anyone heard of a JCAHO requirement that if an xray is done for PICC tip placement and it is anything other than low SVC, that it MUST be called to a physician? We contract with a virtual radiology group for night shift xray interpretation and up until recently they have called the PICC nurse with the tip location. It was up to the PICC nurse to determine what to do with that information, i.e. if they said it's jugular, then we fixed it. But now they are calling (or asking the nurse) to call the physician with this information. Our own radiology group will be talking to the virtual group, but I just wondered if anyone else had run into this requirement. Thanks!
