any ballpark figure what independent contractors are making? are you paid per picc or by the hour? and what amount?

i have been on the picc team at a large teaching facility for 9 years. i also supplement my income by working for a company that provides vascular access to other hospitals, LtACs, nursing homes, etc.. i am crni certified. i am just curious as to how others that work for independent contractors are paid? do you get paid by the hour or by the picc?  and can anyone give a ballpark figure as to what you are making? thanks.

I think most independent

I think most independent contractors are paid by the PICC.  I can only speak to my own experience.  I doubt you will get many people to discuss what they are making in a public forum like this.  It also varies based on area of the country, the contract, whether you are providing the supplies or using the institution's supplies, the ultrasound, daytime, evening, or weekend...  There are many variables.  You may contact me privately at [email protected] and I will try to answer your questions.  People are very reluctant to discuss financial reimbursement.  It is understandable.  There are many expenses involved in being self-employed that are not readily apparent, therefore it can sound like independent contractors are highly paid.  Independent contractors must totally fund their own health insurance and retirement accounts, allow for vacation and sick time, payroll and Medicare taxes, provide their own ultrasound, etc.  The ones I know are pretty much on call 24/7, there is no 'guaranteed income' and no predictable work schedule.  There are many things to consider, so frequently the answers to your questions are not "cut and dried".

Plus discussing fees in a public forum such as this can be considered price-fixing, which is a federal offense. At least this is the warning that frequently goes out on the Legal Nurse Consultants listserv from LNCs would work for attorneys. Lynn
