Question: Do you charge the patient for the supplies (kits, drapes, etc) you use in the insertion of the PICC?   I am not asking if you charge for the procedure.Â
"Charging" for kits and other supplies for a procedure is for internal financial processes only. It will probably not result in an increase in the amount of money paid to your facility. Most patients are now on a capitated fee structure - a fixed amount of money for the entire hospitalization. An example is a DRG for Medicare patients. The money paid to your facility is not going to increase regardless of how much you "charge". This charging process is used for flow control of supplies and allocating the amount of that capitated fee that is assigned to your cost center.
yes we charge for supplies, successful or not. If we have to open up two kits, we must documents reasons why a second kit was opened or used. I believe our hospital charges a set prices for the entire procedure but any other additional supplies not in the kit, we charge. Im not sure how much insurance companies reimburses our hospital.
