Do you require doctor's order to access and to deaccess a port? What about outpatient's requiring lab work only?
I agree. The presence of an implanted port indicates it can and should be accessed and used unless there is some information to the contrary. No physician order is required. Of course, this should be addressed by your policy and procedure committee.
