iv bag documentation

It is the policy at the community hospital where i work to number IV bags. I have been unable to find any evidence basis for this practice. My colleagues and I feel that the type and amount of fluid is the important aspect of monitoring IV intake. Does anyone out there have any information?

It is quite common for a pharmacy admixture service to number the fluid containers they dispense for each patient. Charting by this number is the question and would mean that your facility is not meeting the national standard for documentation of the type, volume, rate, and additives for all fluids hung. Lynn
