Does anyone know if there is a standard protocal for changing the Biopatch? The experience I have had in the the past was that it was to be changed every 7 days with the routine dressing change, but it was brought to my attention today that if the dressing becomes soiled, etc and needs to be changed before the 7th day that the Biopatch is not to be changed but to be left in place which does not sound appropriate to me. I would think that if the dressing has becomed soiled, wet, etc due to drainage of some kind, ex. blood, serous fluid, that changing the Biopatch that is saturated with that fluid should be exchanged for a new one. It seems like a "no-brainer" to me but if anyone who currently uses the Biopatch could shed some light on this I would really appreciate it.
Thanks!Â
The J&J recommendation for changing the Biopatch before 7 days include if it is saturated greater than 50% with blood. That has been our practice.
If the dressing is changed for any reason, we also are changing the Biopatch. Makes more sense to do it all, instead of having a date for the dressing and a different date for the Biopatch.
