We use positive pressure valves (MaxPlus) on all our open ended ports and CL's, we are a heparin free facility and have very low occlusion rates. We do not use the PASV ports.
The original question was about the monthly access and flush of a port that is not in regular use. Most do not feel that this flush should be with saline only regardless of the type of needleless device being used.
You can use saline only if you have a valved port - Groshong or PASV ports. Lynn
