What brand of peripheral IV catheter and extension set do you use when your patients need a CT with high pressure infusion?

we use a 20g Insyte with a heplock cap only, the cap is removed in CT and the pressure tubing connected before CT infusion is started.

I just attended a conference
I just attended a conference where a legal nurse consultant stated that not all PIV's are approved for CT injection.  YOu must first check with the particular catheter you have to make sure it is injectable.  Also, adding anyextension set, etc. to it would make a difference in if it can be used.  THe BD rep was there, but I cna't quite remember what she said.  Maybe check on the BD site.

MaxPlus just came out with

MaxPlus just came out with an extension set with connected cap that is for high-pressure injections.  It has a thin purple line down the side of the extension set to identify it as a power-injectable.  I believe the parent company is Clinical Technology.

ICU Medical has high

ICU Medical has high pressure tubing in micro and macro bore.  Purple slide clamp is available on the microbore.  We are qualifying a mid size bore as well.  You can have Clave, MicroCLAVE or CLC2000 on any length of tubing.

We are using B-D Nexvia's for CT Scans that require the high pressure, EX: angiostudies.

We have not had any problems with this particular peripheral device. B-D can get you hooked. There is a learning curve, but it is worth it. So many patients come in to ED for various  complaints and guess what is ordered? CT!! Good luck

In another post, a Bard

In another post, a Bard rep said the Bard Solo dfu does not make any reference to avoiding use of any type of negative pressure caps with the catheter, and that she is passing on this information verbally to clinicians which looks like it will be to mostly use positive pressure caps with the catheter. To avoid legal issues being referred to here, shouldn't this important clinical information be noted in the dfu to avoid this type of misunderstanding about the correct use of caps with this catheter?
