Looking for a policy for the Miniloc or other safety huber needle. We find it beneficial to stabilize the needle with gauze....
We find it beneficial to stabilize the needle with gauze, however this is against the hospital policy. We'd like to present an alternative an are looking for a sample policy covering this.
The most important thing is the change in the current INS standards about this use of gauze or a shim provided with some brands of port access needles. Putting these under the wings makes it safer for the patient and this does not make the dressing a 48 hour dressing. The 2006 INS standards state this. This dressing can now be changed at 7 days as long as you can see the skin-needle junction and any fluid leakage that may occur. Lynn
