Conivaptan infusion

Our hospital is going to start using this IV medication on selected hyponatremic patients. The infusion recommendations state to use a large vein and rotate the site every 24 hours. Therapy can last 24- 96 hours. Is anyone using this medication? If so, are you using a central line access or peripheral and rotatingÂ the site daily?? Thanks

I just got a new 2008

I just got a new 2008 Intravenous Medications book. This drug has a pH of 3, so a central line is needed for its infusion. This book states, "May cause significant infusion site reaction." It may be so new that extravasation injury has not been reported yet but I would not want to be the first one to see it. Lynn

It's amazing that we had

It's amazing that we had been infusing Vanco, KCL, etc via peripheral line and didnt hear or see any bad extravasation as i see pictures in this website, now I am scared. I am only IV certified, and practiced IV infusions all my life as a clinical nurse, update my knowledge through reading, browsing, websites, on line ce.

I am in the process of suggesting improvements with IV therapy having increased

cases of IV infections in our facility. can u advise me where to start? modules, ebsites, I ll appreciate anything, im by the way supported also by Our Infection Control dept. thanks a lot.
