When to xray after reposition of catheter

We are in need of guidelines/policy for re-xraying the PICC tip after the initial xray shows tip needing to be advanced or pulled back. Currently we are using a general guideline to get another xray when the cath is either pulled back 5 cm or more or advanced 3 cm or more. Does anyone have guidelines for this? Several ideas to employ ECG

Several ideas to employ ECG technology for PICC tip location has been floated over the past 10 years. But none have become a commercial success.
