Phlebotomy via Port

Hi

Can we do phlebotomy through an implanted port?  If yes, any risk that we need to pay attention to?

Thank you

If  you are asking about

If  you are asking about therapeutic phlebotomy, yes you can. But you will have to aspriate manually with large syringes. The very viscous fluid will not flow out on its own. See the INS SOP on Therapeutic Phlebotomy for the standard. If the phlebotomy is to draw a blood sample, you can draw from an implanted port. See INS SOP Blood Sampling.,
