Question Please:
I work in a hospital in Pennsylvania. We are hiring a new ( for us) role of Patient Care Technician. Can anyone direct me toward or answer if PCT - competenly educated - may initiate IV's ( no medications) ? Im having a difficult time locating this information and I know it varies by state.
Thank you !
YOu will need to contact the PA State Board of Nursing to see if they have any documents pertaining to these unlicensed assistive personnel and what they are allowed to do. You also need to look at their statements about delegation as that would apply to these personnel as the RN would be delegating this task to the PCT and the RN would retain responsibility for the outcome.

I found the standards but they appear very vague. Agree, a call may be best. Thank you

The INS SOP could not address every single statement from all 50 boards of nursing. That is why the standard is to follow what your state board says.
