I have been challenged with finding a standard for catheter-to-vein ratio when placing ultrasound PIVs. I understand that it is stated for PICC and midlines, but can find nowhere does it mention pertaining to USPIVs. Any helpful feedback would be appreciated.
I don't understand the rationale for some who think CVR applies to some types of catheters inserted through peripheral veins but not others. I cannot give you a study however there are studies on peripheral catheters showing larger catheters produce greater risk. A literature search will bring them up.
