These lines are routinely being placed in pediatric patients with congenital heart disease at some children's hospitals. Looking for policy and procedure info and INS standards for mid thigh picc placement. Right now we just follow our current policy but I'm reaching out to see if other facilities have specific policies/procedures related to this site of insertion.

Most recent INS SOP do not address this, other than to firmly state that all VADs inserted through the femoral vein require tip location in IVC above the diaphragm and tip location must be confirmed. Mid-thigh insertion sites had not become common practice when this edition was written. The next version will be out in January 2021.

It is already common to use the legs in pediateic patients for line placement so ideal tip placement is well known for those of us routinely placing LE piccs. Perhaps there won't be any additional information to add then.
It all depends on what studies have been published in the last 5 years since our last lit search.
