Covering Ultrasound Probe for CVC procedure

There are times when an MD will use our Site Rite ultrasound for a CVC insertion.  Since the device was only used for purpose of Midline/PICC insertions we do not have sterile probe covers only what is found in the needle-guide kits.  I have had some feedback that other facilities simply take a sterile transparent dressing and apply to the end of the probe, but our ICU RNs are not comfortable with that procedure.  We have had stand alone probe covers in the past, but usage is so low that they outdated before use.  Does anyone else use the transparent dressings for this purpose?

A sterile TSM dressing is

A sterile TSM dressing is ONLY acceptable when inserting a US guided short peripheral catheter with non-sterile technique using only clean gloves. All other insertions including midlines and PICCs and all other CVADs must have a sterile probe cover for the entire length of the probe that is to be handled with only sterile gloves. there is no other acceptable method.

I'm new to the forum, so

I'm new to the forum, so thank you for the opportunity to post. If you're unfamiliar with Safersonic's product, I'd be happy to tell you more about it. It's a sterile transducer cover that eliminates the need for gel inside the cover, so it's much easier to use, there is no artifact, and clean up is far easier after the procedure. My company represents Safersonic here in the US and I'd be happy to answer any questions you might have.
