In training a new nurse to the PICC team, a represenative from the company who was training her told her that the new standards are now PICCs should be placed for Vancomycin. She told her that it was new standards of 2017. I think this rep just wanted to sell more PICCs, but also I don't want her confused by the information. I don't want her being told one way and I instruct her another way.
there is nothing new from INS on this issue. INS Standards are updated and released every 5 years, so the next edition will be out in Jan 2021. I think you are correct about the rep wanted to sell more PICCs! Always expect to see what the rep says in writing. Lynn
See 2016 Infusion Therapy Standards of Practice from INS. What is your specific question?
