VAD in home - considerations

Hello - our group is considering expanding our offering to include VAD placements in a patient's home.  We are looking for a policy covering how to determine if a patient and their home is a suitable candidate.  Seems like it might be very subjective, interested in what others are doing.  Thanks.

 What type of VAD insertion

What type of VAD insertion in the home? PIV, midline, or PICC? You will have to meet the national standards and guidelines no matter where the patient is located when the VAD is inserted. There are numerous published resources in journals and books dedicated to home care. The policy would be that an assessment is done. The criteria to assess is numerous and you would need the details in those books, etc. Lynn

All Types!

Thanks so much Lynn - I suppose officially I'm looking for a procedure.  Can you recommend a book where I may start reading on the topic?  Kris

I am not sure what procedure

I am not sure what procedure you are looking for. First and foremost is the INS Infusion Therapy Standards of Practice, 2016. INS also has a textbook but it is now in revision. The current one was published in 2010 and the new one will be out in 2018. INS also has a policy and procedure book also revised in 2016. Plus there are other books specific to home care but I can't recall any specific names. Look for those about home care authored by Lisa Gorski. Lynn
