The hospital that I work for is interested in trialing a new central line dressing. I am looking for recommendations of which dressings to trial. If you are an RN that has a favorite central line dressing, please share the name. Our current dressing does not stay occlusive for 7 days. We are hoping to find one that has better staying properties. Thanks.
We have found at my hospital that using a skin prep pad makes all the difference in getting the dressing to last that full 7 days. We prep the skin everywhere we expect the Tegaderm to cover.
Totally agree. Skin prep is a trade name but there are many skin barrier solutions. INS Standards recommend there use to prevent medical adhesive related skin injury.

We use this as well - any skin protectant. I also take the pad and once the dressing is in place, I go over the edge of the dressing and the skin and this also helps to seal the dressing down. Works well for warm weather and for pts. who perspire a lot.
