I was asked to place a PICC above a non functioning AV fistula. I refused. Patient has nonfunctioning AV fistulas in both arms. 54 years old, Surgeon waiting 4 days after plavixs stopped. Patient has peripheral IV's but is recieving vanco and pressors. What is the right route?
What surgery is planned after Plavics is metabolized? Revision of one of the fistulas? I would discuss the patient with the nephrologist. Sounds like a jugular line would be best. A subq tunnel could get the insertion site out of the neck. Lynn
