Placement of PICC and Dialysis Catheters in same vein...any literature?
We are having an on going battle with MDs about requests for PICCs in Pts with dialysis caths in place.  Last week the PICC was placed a couple of days prior to the pt receiving the dialysis cath and the MD placed it on the same side.  Is there literature about this...we need some back up.  Thanks

We have chosen here to call
We have chosen here to call the nephrologist following the patient to see if they are OK with us placing the Picc.  Alot of the times they say no they don't want us to.  The other option in that case is for IR to place an IJ picc.  I was always under the impression that once we use the arm for the picc, they can't use it for a shunt.  Not sure if the is the honest truth or not?  Anyone.
