Recieved referral for 10 yr for picc placement. We do not have a pediatric picc program. Patient was referred to radiology due to age. What age do you use as a cut off? or do you go by weight? I'm referring to the school-age/teenager group. We have placed picc in 16 yo in past as they are adult size. Looking for guidelines for when we get future referral for this age group
I would probably place a 3.5fr or 4fr in a 10 year old if the patient is pretty healthy...their basilics are quite large and will accomodate this size line.
