PICC VAT rn
Central Line Bundle

We are trying to revise our consents, to include all central venous catheters, PICC, TLC, swan ganz etc, and to include the new central line bundle on the back of the new consent.  Does anyone incorporate this into their consent? We are having a hard time doing this and looking for any suggestions and samples if there are any out there.  You can email me at [email protected].

Thanks

I'm not quite sure why you
I'm not quite sure why you would want to put the "Central Line Bundle" on the back of your consent forms.  We do have the following on the back of our PICC Insertion Consent forms:   A description of the PICC and what it is used for; the benefits of the PICC, the risks of insertion, including during the dwell time of the catheter, and alternatives.

The Central Line Bundle is important for the clinicians to understand that all the pieces need to be incorporated together to make a difference in preventing CRBSIs at the time of insertion.  They are procedurally related to decrease CRBSI, while infection is a risk of catheter insertion and dwell.   The patient needs to be nformed that catheter-related infection is a risk, but they don't need to be informed of the details of HOW you will prevent it.
