Is there any absolute contraindication to do a picc exchange on who had a heart transplant 16 years ago?
It is my understanding that there is contraindication in pt with an artifical heart or Lvad, as the device can create suction.
Pt is on a milronone drip so the plan is to start a PIV to run med during the exchange.
Is there a valid reason to do an exchange instead of inserting a new PICC? Exchange has risk of infection in all patients. See INS SOP on Catheter Damage in Complications section for the standard on exchanges. Don't know of an absolute contraindication from a 16 year old heart transplant, but exchange brings risks.
