I am wondering if anyone is using these and if so are pts allowed to leave the hospital with them.
Example outpatient requiring therapy 2 days in a row. It’s longer than a peripheral> 3 inches. Not as long as a standard midline. The company reps say that it is being used like a midline, but stop short of calling it a midline.
thank you
Sandy P
This would be a long PIVC. Midline is defined by specific tip location (see INS SOP definition), so there is not a short midline vs long midline. These catheters are used extensively in home care along with many others in this group of long PIVCs.
