one of the studies on drawing labs with Heparin in the line states 25 ml would have to be wasted for an accurate coag study if there was Heparin in the line. Can anyone tell me if you have a protocol for drawing coag studies from a Heparin locked port. Family does not want a peripheral stick to get it.
thanks,
Chris
I think the study you are talking about is about 30 years old. Newer ones state flush with 10 mL and discard 6 mL for PICCs. See INS Standard on Phlebotomy.
