I am a Pediatric PICC nurse. We place PICC lines for children ages neonate to adolescents. We are currently trying to align our PICC team staff with that of other childrens hospitals, based on best practice and community standards. I am interested to find out what team members other facilities use when placing a PICC line on a pediatric patient requiring procedural sedation. We currently utilize two PICC qualified RN's, one sedation RN and the Intesivist, for most patients under 8 yrs old. Is this in line with your facility practices ? Your feed back is greatly appreciated. Thank you
Sorry I got the group name wrong: It is PediSIG and the program for AVA conference in September has lots of peds presentations.
You should contact PediVAN, a special interest group from AVA. I really do not think sedation is used on all patients and child life therapists are used instead for many patients. This depends on many patient factors though. What is the role of the intensivisit for this procedure? I don't think many insertions have an MD present unless the procedure is being done in the radiology suite by an IR physician. Lynn
