Labs from central lines

Probably a dumb question but my brain occasionally works over time :) With the "mix method" for drawing labs from an implanted port, is there a reason the INS standards state to use a new syringe to obtain the blood needed and not use the original saline syringe? My thinking is "less manipulation" using the NS syringe. Thanks.

It really does not specify

It really does not specify what syringe should be used for the actual blood sample???

 Because the syringe used for

Because the syringe used for flushing and aspirating has been exposed to normal saline. The procedures used in all clinical research have changed to a new syringe to obtain the actual sample for the lab to prevent any skewing of the results. Lynn
