Does any one have any experiance giving Panhematin at home. The patient that was  referred to our pharmacy has been getting the drug every month over 5 days for about a year and a half for a  severe form of porphyria. The normal treatment for this diisease is to treat sevever attacks only but this patient has not done well with that treatment plan. The patient has tolerated the infusions with out problems when pre medicated with Zofran and benadryl
I have also read that mixing the drug with albumin has greatly reduced the rate of phlebitis and anticoagunt effect of the drug.Â
