Infections with positive pressure devices

I'm looking for any reference about infections in all central lines (PICCs and other CVC) when using positive pressure devices.

We currently do not use any positive pressure devices in our facility.  Thanks Darla

There have been numerous

There have been numerous presentations at numerous conferences on the infection risk with all types of needleless connectors. This problem is not limited to just positive pressure devices. The only published information so far is:

Maragakis L, Bradley K, Song X, et al. Increased catheter-related bloodstream infection rates after the introduction of a new mechanical valve intravenous access port. Infect Control  Hosp Epidemiol. 2006;27(12):67-70.

Is anyone doing a study on

Is anyone doing a study on the positive displacement v/s neutral displacement that looks at infection risk along with occlusion etc?

The important things to look

The important things to look at are fluid path, residual volume, size and shape of mating surfaces.  These are just as or more important than focusing on "positive" displacement.
