I work for a infusion pharmacy. We are currently rewriting our teaching sheets for patients. When we were working on the IM injection sheet our pharmacy director stated that the package insert on many of the injectable drugs was no longer recommending aspirating before injecting. Has anyone else heard of this? I am uncomfortable because I don't know a nurse who has not "hit a vein" at some point during an injection and had to pull out and start over. I am unable to find a reference anywhere that substantiates this practice. Does anyone know what "weight" the drug package insert carries?
Thanks in advance for your help--this site is a huge resource to our facility!
