Is there anything newer than 2016 from AABB? anyone care to expound on this? It is weak, low-quality evidence.
Recommendation 2:
The AABB suggests prophylactic platelet transfusion for patients having elective central venous catheter placement with a platelet count less than 20 × 109 cells/L. (Grade: weak recommendation; low-quality evidence)
I was searching for any transfusion guidelines (instructions). So far only found parameters. This one confused me.
Jill, the evidence based practice report on my website is review of the latest research, but have not had a chance to even look at it today and don't remember details. Given the fact that a major bleeding episode is NOT documented with any CVAD insertion in the published literature and the patient can be refractory to platelets, I don't think it is a wise idea, even with the very low counts.

That's pretty much what I thought. It's a little surprising to see AABB publishing this. At least they owned "low quality evidence"
