We are using the Powerwand and find that there is a patient population for whom it is a great device. I have resisted using mid arm IV's for a long time because they are so easily mistaken for a PICC and used for extravasating medications. The Powerwand doesn't look like a PICC and the company has developed excellent signage to prevent misuse. It certainly is a product that has a bit of a learning curve but with a 29 day dwell time per the FDA, it is certainly useful in the patient with challenging access issues who doesn't need a central line.
