Does anyone have any references for port tips to be in the atrium? I know that SIR has indicated RA location is ok, but is this just a blanket answer? Is there really a difference when a physician places these central devices?
Thank you in advance for your wisdom.
A CVAD is a CVAD is a CVAD. It does not matter how it is design, the tip location for all of them, implanted ports included, is the junction of the superior vena cava and the right atrium. It should not be inside the RA and it should not be higher in the SVC. See INS standards of practice, manufacturers instructions for use, plus there are many other publications about this. Lynn
