I don't think any state has

I don't think any state has established requirements for this role as a contractor. However, your customers are going to expect you to be a fully functioning highly skilled professional. You will need at least a few years of clinical experience with insertion of CVADs such as PICCs. You might find a team where you can work to get this experience and there may be some contracting companies that will provide this training but most only hire those with PICC insertion experience. For now, obtain all the journals, standards of practice and related guidelines. Study them. Earn your CRNI and VA-BC. Attend local and national conferences to expand your knowledge base and network with others in the field. Good luck, Lynn

Thank you for your response!

Thank you for your response! I have another question in mind, is it possible to offer ultrasound guided IV services on LTACs or SNF given that you have the certificates and experience as an independent contractor?. Should I start a company first?, establishing my services policy and procedure and do I have to be certified/licensed by a certain organization to do it? will appreciate your response thank you!

Yes, you can offer VAD

Yes, you can offer VAD insertion and management services to LTACs and SNFs for a fee. You can bill the facility and the facility bills the final payer (eg, insurance, Medicare, etc). I strongly recommend you set up your business first. You will need a good contract for your services, billing and accounting processes, marketing materials, meet legal requirements for a business license in your county or city (depends on your address). Note this has nothing to do with your nursing license and there is no organization that would "certify/license" you to do this. Clinical outcomes produced by your services provides the reference for what you can produce. In your contract, you need to be very clear about whether you and your staff will follow P & P that you have written and the facility/client have accepted, or are you going to follow P &P already established by the facility. You will need to understand paying taxes which is determined by your business structure - sole proprietor, LLC, S-corp.  You will need malpractice insurance as an independent contractor so the policy you may have as an employee is not sufficient. Finally, how will you obtain your supplies, US machines, and other needed materials. As you can see, there will be start up expenses and I have probably forgotten several. There are many nurses and others successfully doing this all across the country. Good luck.

Also, please note that many

Also, please note that many LTC facilities have RN's who work for the pharmacy that these homes are contracted with, and these pharmacies place PICC's and ML and perform all manner of IVT procedures for them.  These pharmacies are also great places to start getting your feet wet, as many will train you.

do you think can you site

do you think can you site some examples of companies/pharmacies that train nurses for picc line insertion if its not against forum policy. I will appreciate it! thank you!

I don't think you can or

I don't think you can or should expect to go to a training class for PICC insertion and then immediately start a business to provide this service. You need to work on a team for at least a year or 2 to get your competency documented and continue to learn all aspects from clinical experience. Then you might be able to produce good outcomes for your clients that will drive your business. Without that experience though, your outcomes may not be so good as you learn.
