For all of you doing pedi iv's and PICC's. A couple of questions please. 1)What are your hours of operation?
2)How often do you check your PIV sites?
Thank you so much in advance.
Children's Health Care of Atlanta
Our vascular access team currently functions from 7 to 5:30 M-F. My goal is to expand to at least 16 hours a day.
Infusing PIVs are assessed hourly.
We are starting up a pediatric PICC program and I would like to know what INS standards are for antiseptic cleansing in infants < 2 monhts of age.

The standards state that povidone-iodine or chlorhexidine gluconate is recommended but require removal with sterile water or sodium chloride 0.9% to prevent absorption.
Chlorhexidine gluconate should be used with caution in infants weighing less than 1000 gms due to reports of contact dermatitis.
