I'm working as a nurse specialist (ICU, AN) in a neurosurgical unit in north of Sweden.
I was just browsing the NET a couple of weeks ago and saw this excellent site.
Our PICC unit, at our ward, is only 2y old. 145 inserted PICCs LOL.
I guess we are 10-15 y behind you all, but the learning curve is steep.
I hope I’m not going to bother you all with questions that you already discussed in the past.
There's a lot of interesting threads out there. I have read some of them. Its hard to keep up.
Maybe you can direct me to some of them that I find important (?)
Here are some of my concerns:
Complication rates regarding CLABSI and venous thrombosis
Over all complication rates (all complications together)
References (good ones) that I can use when informing/persuade DOCs and management
Important variables when creating a PICC data base
So far I guess we have pretty god stats:
145 PICCs inserted, around 2000-2500 catheter days.
95% success rate with US guided insertions
5% initial malpositions
1 case of symptomatic thrombosis
Hope you can help me in the future
Have a nice one Thomas/Sweden
