There is a discussion (argument)Â among the team of doctors and the nursing staff. Can we infuse antibiotics through one of the ports when we are infusing blood through the other?
Multilumen configuration allows for simultaneous infusion of incompatible infusates. Open ended trimmable catheter tips residing in the SVC benefit from the 2000ml flow rate allowing adequate hemidilution. In my clinical experience administering blood products in one lumen and other meds such as antibiotics in another lumen did not result in negative outcomes.

Hope this helps.
