Am I too fussy when I insist my colleagues designate their interventions with CVC triple lumen lumens? I fear that charting by the color of port makes it easy to forget the location of the port and whether it is downstream of the other ports. Thank you, Art Hansen, BSN, RN, CRNI.
I much prefer to state distal, medial or proximal lumen when I am administering something through a multi-staggered tip design CVC but you may be fighting a losing battle. I even chart my flushes that way. When it is important that a certain lumen is used over another..then YES I say absolutely document it that way.
