We are updating and reformatting our PICC P&P and have been asked the following question......
"Do you have references regarding contraindications such as mastectomy. stroke side, pacer, dialysis etc.
We get demands from Residents & PAs insisting placement of PICCs on those patients and they want to see the EB references."
The Dialysis reference is easy but what about the other contraindications?

Contraindications are on the insert from every PICC line providor and on every venous access organization website on the planet. Everyone you mentioned is included. Try AVA, INS, CDC and SIR websites. Do you have an IR department? They also would assit with those issues. In our 5 hospital system we do NOT allow PA's to order such procedures. Residents are there to learn, not demand. I guess it's a sign of the times.
