Average catheter dislodgment rates...

I am researching a topic I'm hoping that some of you might be able to help with.

I'm looking for any information on what the average catheter dislodgment rate is across the country?  It could be for PICCs/Centrals and/or PIVs.  This is for both accidental/intentional dislodgments.  I'm interested in the rate even with the use of securement devices. If anyone has any information on this, please share.

Also if you might be willing to share your own facility's catheter dislodgment rates and ways you've been able to reduce those rates.  Any information would be very much appreciated.  Thank you.

I wish you luck in finding

I wish you luck in finding such data, but don't think you will find a lot. There is no large database where this information is collected. You will have to do a thorough lit search and pull the data from each study. I have done other projects like this and I can tell you that the definitions used in each study may easily be different. So coming up with meaningful numbers is a challenge. Most facilities only collect VAD outcome data on CLABSI rates because they are required to report that but no other data reporting requirements, so they simply don't collect it. Lynn

Dislodgement rates

Hello,

I reviewed our accidental dislodgement rates of our PICCs and they were 9.6-10% over a 3 year period.  I only counted the ones that required a replacement of their catheter.

Cheers!
