As an IV Team we routinely insert PICC catheters alone. How does everyone else complete the checklist from the central line bundle? Does someone watch your insertion and sterility technique?
We document that the check list is being followed 100% when we insert by ourselves. Then we audit(observe and fill out the checklist) each other or have another staff member do the check list a certain percentage of the time in addition to that.
Yes we always have someone to observe and assist. Before the checklist we had someone (licensed or not) in the room to hand extra supplies, assist holding the patient etc.
