Our facility is consindering going heparin flush free. Wondering if IV RNS using Saline Only flushes (including open ended caths) are seeing any increase in occluded caths... increase use of alteplase...neither, you love it?

The most common response that I hear during presentations is that they are seeing an increased use of alteplase with saline only. This is anecdotal information and more studies are needed, but based on what is published I still believe that heparin is needed. Saline alone is not the answer for maintaining patency of CVCs. Lynn
