Our hospital is converting to the Baxter Flolink positive pressure cap and we were wondering if any insitutions out there had experienced an increase in CLABs with this particular product.

Thanks for your help.

No Increase infection rate with using Baxter product

Summa Barberton Hospital has been utilizing FloLink/Clearlink for 5 years with no increase in infection rate.  My role at this hospital has been in Education and currently as a Nurse Manager of a Medical Unit.

I find it strange that your hospital is converting to the Baxter Flolink. We were using it and we were told by the Company that they were no longer going to be making it. This was probably 6 months ago. We converted to clearlink caps which do not have any positive pressure properties to it. I also thought the CDC was not reccommending positve pressure devices anymore. I could be wrong on that. We have not had any problems since we switched to clearlink.

Thanks but my message was meant for those like scrubthehub who are writing messages about products without any identification. Readers need to know what is influencing these messages such as employment by a manufacturer. That is not to say that manufacturer's reps should be ignored, howwever we need to know the motivation to properly apply them to our practices. Lynn

You may want to look at the

You may want to look at the Maxplus instead of the FloLink. The Maxplus Clear is a clear version of the Flolink (made by the same compnay) and they wont try and switch you to the clearlink later which is pretty negative when it comes to displacement. Most of the MaxPlus studies show decreases with the MaxPlus or Flowlink, and I don't think there are any studies showing any increases in bsi's. Dont let people confuse you with mechanical valve studies that show increases in BSI's. All these studies are done with the same 2 products, not the Maxplus or flolink. Good Luck!
