Holding a Heparin drip 1 hour prior to PICC insertion

Does any other instition follow this policy? We have the nurse turn off the heparin drip for one hour before we come to the bedside to insert our PICC's. I cannot find any literature to support this practice.

I have never seen any literature to support this, have never practiced that way, have never heard anyone else that practices this way, or even any discussion about this. I have serious doubts about whether it is necessary. Eager to hear what other say. Lynn

I placed a midline in a patient yesterday with SVC syndrome and on a heparin drip and did not stop the infusion. Bleeding at the site was minimal.
