Yesterday at AVA, Rivka asked the speaker on Infectious Disease why there were so many different strategies for determining a central line infection and treating. From the applause, it was clear this was a widespread problem. Below is an excellent reference that coincidentally was sent to me last night. I have attached the PDF
Clinical Practice Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Management of Intravascular Catheter-Related Infection 2009 Update by the Infectious Deseases Society of America

You are correct. This is the primary reference for the management of CRBSI. However this document does not address prevention. For that you need the SHEA Compendium, which has now been adopted by the Joint Commission. Lynn

Lynn, Could you share the SHEA Compendium? I've been on their website but not been very successful finding anything. Or please tell me how to find it. Thanks, Vickey
