Extension sets on peripheral IVs

Looking for evidence supporting or refuting the use of extension sets on peripheral IVs. It seems sensible to use them to prevent manipulation at the insertion site & the subsequent complications. A quick lit search only revealed 2 clinical trials that used these devices as part of their standard venipuncture procedure in their study methodology.Any guidance is much appreciated.

I do not know of any

I do not know of any studies, have not looked recently, but I always teach this technique and would never accept an IV on me or family members without its use. The newer designs of catheters such as Nexivia have this extension set built on. So I strongly believe there are numerous benefits to using it.
