Are there any published  recommendations for  CVC dressing change procedures done in the home care setting when a patient or family member is performing this procedure?. Of particular interest, are the use of masks and gloves when performing dressing changes and blood draws.  From the  infection control perspective, gloves are recommended for any procedure. Is this the same for home care? What about sterile vs clean gloves? Any suggestions are appreciated.
Care of all catheters is the same for all healthcare settings. I have never seen any different set of guidelines for home care. Infusion Nursing Standards of Practice are written for all healthcare settings with input from nurses in all settings and working with all age groups.

We should be providing the same care across the continuum of care regardless of the patient location. We (home infusion pharmacy) provide a dressing kit to our home patients with the sterile components - gloves, tegaderm dressing, 2x2, mask, alcohol, chlorhexidine, etc. for the HHA nurse or in the rare case pt and family use to do the dressing changes. The cost of the kit and following INS Standards is minimal compared to the cost of an infection no matter what practice setting
