Any restrictions to lifting weights with a PICC in the upper arm?
My patient is 35 and in a wheelchair and wants to get his arm strength back while getting his antibiotics in his PICC for the next month at our facility. Is there a restriction on weight lifting or arm movement?Â
Yes, should be limited to normal activities of daily living. Excessive or repetitive arm movements increases the risk of thrombophlebitis, catheter dislodgement and possibly infection. How long will the PICC be needed? Will he loose much ground in that period of time? Some limited activity may be acceptable but maybe not.
